Advanced Diagnostic Examinations
At Mullers Optometrists we strive to take a holistic approach when assessing your vision and this includes the health of your eye as well as the shape of your cornea.
Our advanced diagnostic assessments include:
Fundus Photography
Fundus Photography involves using an intricate microscope to photograph the back of the eye.
We can assess the Optic Nerve Head, Retina, Macula and blood vessels in detail. We can detect changes in the health of the eye which aids in the early detection of eye diseases such as glaucoma, macula degeneration and signs of uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension.
Corneal Topography
Corneal Topography creates a 3D map of the corneal surface. It is a non-invasive measurement and aids us in diagnosing conditions such as Irregular Astigmatism, Keratoconus and even Dry Eye Syndrome.
We also use corneal topography to accurately fit RGP (Hard) and Scleral contact lenses.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
OCT is a non-invasive instrument that allows us to see a 3D or cross-section of the retina. This aids us in the early detection of eye diseases such as Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy before symptoms appear.
An OCT scan functions similarly to a CT scan using light waves to differentiate the layers of the retina. The OCT can also evaluate the front surface of the eye (cornea) which measures the thickness of the cornea and allows us to fit specialised contact lenses (Scleral lenses) down to the last nanometre!
Perimetry – Visual Field Test
Perimetry is the measurement of the visual field of the eye in great detail. Visual fields are used to diagnose Glaucoma and other conditions which may affect peripheral vision such as brain injury or stroke.
We also measure the “central peripheral vision” of the macula using an Amsler Grid to detect conditions such as macula degeneration and swelling.
